THE BOOK CLUB
Welcome to the Practical Magic book club! Each month we pick a theme to follow, and then everyone reads whatever title they'd like within that theme. There is no policing of book choice - it is totally at your discretion, and you can choose fiction or non-fiction.
Join the discord to be involved with picking dates and locations. We will aim to meet about once a month. When we gather, we’ll take turns talking about the books we read. Each member will ‘have the floor’ for about 5-10 minutes, depending on how many people are in attendance; we’ll always aim to keep the meeting under 2 hours.During your turn, you can:
Provide a brief summary of your book (if you’re discussing a fiction book, you may want to share the premise but avoid revealing major spoilers)
Share some personal thoughts or reflections
Open the discussion to the group with questions
Discussion can also evolve naturally as other members ask questions and make comments.Above all, this is meant to be a warm, fun, welcoming space for women to talk about books. We encourage thoughtful discussion and debate, and criticism of books is a natural part of that, but we do not welcome criticism of members or their choices. We are all responsible for keeping this community a safe, comfortable space.
Some ideas for personal thoughts to share include:
Did you like or dislike the book? How would you rate it out of 10? Why?
How did you relate to this book? What resonated with you?
What did you learn from this book?
Are there any specific quotes you want to share?
Did this book make you reflect on something in a new way? (Ethics, love, friendship, family, success, loneliness, happiness, whatever?)
Some ideas for group questions include:
What would you do in the situation that this character is facing?
Would you live in this fantasy world, given the choice?
Does this premise remind you of other media (books, movies, TV, podcasts) that we might find interesting?
